      hi newby here,
slightly off topic here but could do with some reliable advise,,recently given up classic cars after 30 enjoyable years restored most marks during this time
now into classic boats ,my current boat a freeman is fitted with a marinised 105e engine, cooled by river/sea water pumped around it.
after 45 years cyl head badly corroded, i have a good 1340 cc 109e engine that is to tall to fit in its place,,my question is will 109e head fit and work ok on a 105e block,,not a peformance engine, all reply’s greatly recieved
      thanks bob

The 997, 1198 and 1342 engines all used the same block so should all be the same height. The 1498 was about 5/8″ taller.

I think the 109E head is for the 1342 engine, and if put on a 997 one, the compression ratio would be very low, possibly too low to run. A quick calculation gives about 6.68:1.

hi just noticed on other forum this block marked 109e may be a 997cc /1200cc is this possible , i just bought this recently recon engine,,, any obvious other markings apart from measuring the stroke… this is marinised so manifolds are totally differnt
                thanks again bob

No, parts can be and might well have been interchanged over the years.
