      i have a radio cassete which i want to fit to my thames van my van is + earth so do i wire the black wire of the radio to the + on the battery ,and the red to – on the battery ,the speaker needs earthing that will also be the + on the battery ,i am trying to work it out but would love a bit of help the radio body cant be earthed or can it .thanks :?

        Probably easier and safer to convert van to negative earth, unless originality is top priority

          Some older radios are switchable between positive and negative earth. If this is not the case, to do what you suggest the radio would have to be totally insulated from the metalwork of the car, which is +ve on a positive earth car (hence isolating the radio chassis which usually has the earth attached to it). As Brian said, prob easier to change van to -ve earth, an easy job (just check you’ve not fitted any accessories which are polarity-sensitive).
