My engine has not been started for about 6 months as it was off the road for painting. Engine was not removed.
When we put it all back together this week the first problem was no spark, traced this to faulty electronic ignition, went back to points and condenser. Now getting a really good spark but engine will not fire up at all. Firing order is right, timing is right and it’s getting fuel. Put 2 fresh gallons into it just incase fuel had gone off.
Any ideas?Sorry should have said it’s a 1500 pre crossflow,non GT
May 12, 2010 at 10:43 pm #23532I remember reading on this site, not too long ago on how to check on a car not working right. I want to say it was written by Ken, but can’t be sure. The article gave 3 issues that could be a cuprit, with “engine starting” being one of the issues. Each was very detailed on what to do on each issue. If I can locate the post, I will let you know. I would think it would be in this, “technical help “, area. Good luck,
Don
May 12, 2010 at 10:50 pm #23533Found it! The post was here under Technical Help. The post was “No Spark” and submitted by “Pete” on Mar 10, 2010. The instructions were provided by “Jan” and concurred in with “Ken”. If they can’t help you, you are in deep do-do. Good Luck,
Don

Take the airfilter off, pour a small amount of fuel down the carb and try again.

May 13, 2010 at 12:56 pm #23546Thanks guys. I have tried fuel down the carb but that didn’t help. Left the plugs out and to the bowl off the carb last night. I’m convinced it has to be mechanical so will check that the valves are free tonight and put it all back together and try again.
Will let you know how I get on.May 13, 2010 at 10:07 pm #23552Fitted new earth lead inside dizzy and fired up no probs
Had lost the old one when I changed it over to electronic ignition but had ran a wire straight out of dizzy up to the coil which I thought would do,obviously not
Only thing I can think of is that it was stopping the vacuum advance from working but I would have thought it would have made more of an effort to start than it was. -
