Not sure if this one is an original estavan, the owner says it is, but there were some genuine ones built for the export market.
February 6, 2010 at 11:34 pm #22826It is not genuine heres a picture of one taken from the book Anglia Prefect Popular From Ford Eight to 105E by Micheal Allen.
If you notice the genuine one still has the pillar between the two rear side windows.
I think also, they were only available for export so would probabley be left hand drive
I would expect that the estate was converted some time ago and whoever did it changed the class of vehicle with the DVLA.
Blimey I am starting to sound like Aubone (is that a good or a very bad thing???) :?
I Dont feel wellFebruary 7, 2010 at 10:16 am #22828Well if it aint real then somebodys gone to a lot of effort, the window blank maybe 1 piece but it looks like its been pressed instead of the usual flat piece of tin people fit, im also suprised hes been allowed to change the class. Aubone- is there anything linked to chassis no on the real estavns?

Heres a picture of John Reeds which he built himself.
He has pressed into it a ridge about .5 inch in from the edge.

When i saw it at Stratford myself, I’m afraid I’m not convinced it left the factory like that. The centre pillar has been removed, not something I’d see the factory doing when the production line is moving along. My own opinion is that the work was carried out by an approved aftermarket firm in the same way as the vans with the rear seat conversions.
February 7, 2010 at 6:32 pm #22840Oh well, guess that has cleared up any doubt lol!
February 8, 2010 at 4:09 am #22848Never say never, and that was only my opinion. Several others didnt agree with me I hasten to add.
February 8, 2010 at 10:57 am #22854Well you have seen it in the flesh and you seem to be a billy who knows a bit about anglias lol! I do like the one piece pressed side panels though, they kind of make it look the part!
February 8, 2010 at 12:42 pm #22857It was very nicely done whoever did it, and would certainly look the part if restored to original condition.
February 9, 2010 at 7:01 pm #22877Ah Baldrick, you make me feel so proud :)
I knew all those hours and hours and hours of discussing the finer points of Ford Anglias with you went to good use.
Those hours just flew by for me :D
As far as the question of is it or isn’t it a genuine Estavan, I am with Ken on this one. I think it might have been ordered specially but did start off as an Estate and converted from new which puts it in the same catagory as Anglia Pickups. All were vans first but converted before being regestered for the road.
I would not think it would be too difficult to change the taxation class or model description with the DVLA. My van was changed to Pickup when John Reed converted it.
