Why is it that some Anglias have 2 metal plates behind the front grill either side of the opening in the front panel.
Did all cars have these? as mine doesn’t and what colour should they be.
January 25, 2010 at 6:12 am #22705Do you mean the ones actually attached to the back of the front grille? And if this is so, black.
January 25, 2010 at 8:26 am #22706That’s the ones, but mine doesn’t have any and I am only the second owner. Were they fitted to ALL cars or just a particular few?
January 25, 2010 at 6:30 pm #22713I noticed that on your Anglia at the AGM. They are missing. And when refitted, will change but improve the look. Painted black of course.
Jase.

January 25, 2010 at 7:19 pm #22716January 25, 2010 at 7:40 pm #22718I have also looked in the Gallery and there are quite a few cars without these panels. I seem to remember whne I had a car back in the sixties they rusted quite badly, is this the reason most cars don’t have them do you think.
January 26, 2010 at 6:55 am #22723Mo,
I don’t know, as it’s not something which has been really discussed. All I know is that when I have re painted mine, makes the front of the car really stand out and finish it off. Funny enough, the Anglia for sale at Affordable Classics is missing these grille panels too.
January 26, 2010 at 4:11 pm #22730No problem. I’m going to do mine anyway because I thought of it when I was rebuilding but never bothered to find out and like you, I think it looks better.
February 1, 2010 at 7:05 pm #22770I was under the impression that these panels were fitted to cars that were painted in a lighter colour, and that dark cars were often not fitted with them from new. Maybe Aubone could enlighten us?
February 2, 2010 at 5:13 pm #22781The metal panels were fitted to all cars with the full grille.
Early type and late type. They are probably much more noticable though on light colour cars. The same goes for the radiator apature which is also painted black on every model except for the standard model which is body colour.I could go on but I am sure you would like me to stop now :)
