Hi I have just taken the head off of my 105e engine which is installed in a 1964 freeman boat. and looking at the haynes manual the valve springs free length state 45.7 mm. all of mine are between 37-38mm, which seems a hell of a differance. So Firstly I am trying to find out what is the correct length, and secondly, where can I buy a standar set of springs. regards Alan

45.7mm is the correct length. The Club’s spares service sells them: https://105eoc.com/product/valve-springs-set-of-8/?v=79cba1185463

I was able to measure one valve spring, ( free of its head after 200,000+ miles & 50+ years) & it too measures a sort 39mm.
I wonder what engine revs short ( & soft?) springs start to matter at?
